Gutters & Downspout Systems

A downspout is defined as a vertical pipe that carries rainwater from the roofline to the ground. The gutters are sloped towards the downspout to channel the water down. The water then flows through the downspout due to gravity and is discharged away from the foundation of your home. At the end of the downspout is usually a drainpipe that directs the run-off water with an elbow above ground or drains below ground into a drain tile.

Gutters & Downspout Systems

Gutter systems exist in order to collect rain water from roofs and carry it away from the home. It is critical to have a downspout system that is configured correctly and comprised of quality drain pipes and leaders. Gutter systems that are not properly built can result in serious damage to the home’s fascia, soffits, shingles, foundations, walkways, driveways and even landscaping.

It is essential to perform routine maintenance on your gutter system so that your home remains safe and dry at all times. It is necessary to eliminate all accumulated leaves, nesting materials and other debris and ensure that no failures of the sealants have occurred. A substantial array of materials is available for constructing downspouts and gutters, including vinyl, aluminum, steel and copper. Vinyl and steel materials are commonly sold in lengths of 10 feet which will necessitate the use of a large number of seams that will be fastened via slip fittings. Each of these spots poses a failure threat and a leak risk. It is worthwhile to explore the option of having seamless aluminum gutter products installed, and these will need to be professionally fabricated on site.

“Seamless gutters” is something of a misnomer, because seams do indeed exists in these systems. However, they are only located at corners and the outlet areas of the downspouts. Such joints will receive reinforced fasteners and greater sealing attention to enhance their ability to resist leaks. Seamless gutters themselves are rendered in continuous form, making them exceptionally study and attractive to the eye.

The most frequently installed gutter type is a 6-inch seamless model featuring 3×4 downspouts. These are ideal when it comes to withstanding the torrential rains for which South Florida is known. Choosing the 3×4 downspout for each 1200 square feet of relevant roof area: For instance, if you have a roof that measures 40 feet in length and 16 feet upward to the peak, the pertinent calculation is 40 x 16, equaling 640 square feet in area. In such a circumstance, one 3 x 4 downspout will be needed.

Steeply pitched roofs or those rendered in tile or slate may necessitate the use of 7-inch Seamless Gutters, and 3 x 4 downspouts will always be recommended. I had a absolutely wonderful experience with Budget Gutters. The young lady in the office (Amy) was super nice, very professional (the most professional I spoke to out of several companies), she was knowledgeable, personable and able to answer all of my questions. She was able to provide a quote over the phone and once we hung up forwarded me the estimate in writing immediately. I then chose to go with their company which I am happy I did. The install went smoothly and the installers were very professional. There prices, quality of work and professionalism are superior to others hands down. I will definitely be using them again for my other properties in the future. Great job Budget Gutters 👏 5+ stars

          When Gutters Go Bad

          Neglected Gutters

Neglected gutters usually carry a heavy load of debris that may build over time. It also contains standing water. This weight can destroy the gutter’s pitch in no time. The pitch is usually the angle of the guttering that directs the water to the downspouts using gravity. When the pitch is destroyed due to excess weight, the water cannot flow to the downspout. In fact, the water will sit in the gutter for a longer period of time. At this point, the standing water could back up into the home.
